How To Prevent Staining on Your Teeth

How To Prevent Staining on Your Teeth

Have you ever looked in the mirror and noticed that your teeth aren’t nearly as white as they used to be? You might brush your teeth twice or even three times per day, but your teeth still aren’t the sparkling white shade you desire. Staining varies by each person’s teeth, the foods he or she eats and the measures he or she takes to avoid staining.

Here are some foods/drinks that cause the most staining:

  • Coffee
  • Soy sauce
  • Tomato sauce
  • Beets
  • Blueberries
  • Grape or cranberry juice
  • Red or white wine
  • Soda
  • Tea

If many of your favorites are on this list, just remember to brush thoroughly after eating or drinking them.

There are also some foods that clean your teeth while you eat them by scrubbing the outer layer and brushing away plaque. Some of these foods are:

  • Celery
  • Cauliflower
  • Apples
  • Carrots

Some other ways to keep your teeth to make your teeth shine are:

  1. Drink with a straw. When you drink with a straw, the liquid is not coating all of your teeth like it would without one, making them less likely to be stained.
  2. Practice recommended oral care. This means brushing, flossing, and rinsing regularly. You can even purchase a whitening toothpaste or mouthwash to boost your results.
  3. Don’t smoke. Smoked or chewed, tobacco causes teeth to yellow.

If your teeth still are not as white as you’d hoped after following these tips, stop in for a consultation for a professional whitening treatment. The results are immediate and the process can be completed in one visit.
